First Timers Guide

Q: Is there a dress code at Symphony concerts?
A: No there is not, unless the concert is a gala special event. Casual attire is acceptable within the limits of cleanliness and propriety. Getting all gussied up for a big night out with that special someone can be great fun!

Q: How long is a Symphony concert?
A: Most VSO concerts are approximately 2 hours long, including a twenty minute intermission.

Q: What refreshments are available?
A: The theatre concession offers a selection of special coffees, alcoholic beverages, cold drinks and candies.

Q: What is not allowed in the theatre?
A: Cameras and recording devices are not permitted.

Q: How old should children be to attend a Symphony concert?
A: Except for Kid's Koncerts and Tiny Tots, it is not recommended to take children under six years of age to Symphony concerts.

Q: Are there many parking options around the venues?
A: The VSO encourages everyone to go green and use public transit as much as possible (all venues are well served by public transit options), but each venue has a large amount of parking available. Parking is free to ticketholders at the Bell Performing Arts Centre and Centennial Theatre. Around the Orpheum, there are multiple parking options within a two block radius of the theatre. Q: When and where are the pre-concert talks?
A: Pre-concert talks, before all Masterworks Gold and Masterworks Diamond concerts, are at 7:05pm in the main auditorium of the Orpheum Theatre.

Q: What if I arrive late at the theatre?
A: Most venues have a latecomers policy that allows latecomers to be seated at an appropriate break in the music, chosen by the conductor, at the back of the theatre. Latecomers can then move to their originally purchased seats after intermission.
